Some do it for fame, others for the girls, most do it for a chance to make money or simply to be the mightiest greatest screen in the room.
I personally started because i wanted my phone to look nice, but eventually saw how icons are everywhere and their crucial importance… i was hooked.

Even when I had a dumbphone, I was always trying to max it out, testing it's limits. Once I got a smartphone, especially Android, it was all about finding a functional setup with lots of style.
I'm constantly trying to find ways to refine my homescreen now. I don't change them out as often as I was, because the functionality has overpowered my need to constantly change the look.

+Phlash Tha not so sure about that, it seems like its getting harder and harder to flash custom ROMs on some devices so it might get to the point where the design aspect is all people are gonna want to change on their device due to fear of bricking their device. Luckily for the hardcore Android user there will be other devices running pure cm that we can still play with.

That's how I started, I wanted to make my phone look good. So I started using stuff from other themes and mixing them together. Still not happy with the outcome I started creating framework and app images of my own and haven't looked back. Theming has been in my dictionary for at least three years.
